For a long time the Korean scientific community was hesitant about engaging with creationists for fear of giving the movement more credibility. However, silence is no longer an option.
The STR has been battling to eliminate content from textbooks that explain evolution, including the discovery of the feathered dinosaur Archaeopteryx as an ancestral bird's ancestor. However, this is just one aspect of the development paradigm's evolution.
What is Evolution?
Evolution is a scientific theory that explains the changes in genetic characteristics of living organisms over time. The theory is based on the fact that living organisms adapt to their environment and this can lead to changes in genes or even whole genomes. Over the course of many generations the changes could result in the emergence of new species. The most popular theory of evolution is natural selection, which explains the process by which people with advantages survive and reproduce more often than those with less favorable characteristics. This variation in reproduction could eventually lead to the emergence and evolution of new species.
The word "evolution" is derived from the Latin word"evolution" which means unrolling or revealing. However, the concept itself has had many different meanings since it took form in the sciences and elsewhere. Some early evolutionists, including Jean Baptiste de Lamarck and Erasmus Darwin (Charles's grandfather) believed that the existing species changed into other species in a planned manner. The term"transmutation" was coined by Lamarck's disciple embryologist Etienne Geoffroy Saint-Hilaire to describe this notion. Charles Lyell, who published the second volume of his Principles of Geology in 1833 opposed this notion and borrowed the term "evolution" from Geoffroy's student to describe the idea that species are evolving into other species in a gradual and predictable manner.
Evolutionary biologists define it more recently as a process through which living creatures develop traits that increase their chances of survival or conceiving offspring. Over time this genetic variation can lead to the emergence of entirely new physical or biological traits in the same population. Natural selection is the main force behind the most evolutionary changes. However other changes that are not genetic, such as the increase in muscle mass from diet or exercise can't be considered to be examples of evolution because they are not inherited by the next generation.
Creationists are using the argument that evolution is controversial, even though it has been proven to be valid by a multitude of scientific tests and it has been tested over time. They argue that the theory shouldn't be taught in schools. In South Korea, creationists have won a few victories in their fight to remove evolution from high-school textbooks and have also gotten rid of any mention of the evolutionary roots of humans and the Archaeopteryx, a feathered dinosaur thought to be an ancestral bird's parent.

OECs are not as well-known, but they are just as enthusiastic about their beliefs as YECs. OECs believe the universe and Earth are billions-of-years old and that evolution is a lie.
Both types of creationism reject the notion that scientific principles like natural selection and abiogenesis could explain the origins of life on Earth. They assert that evolution is inconceivable because it requires miracles. The pioneers of modern scientific thought resisted miracles because they feared they might lose their credibility.
Some creationists believe in both naturalistic evolution and special creation, and refer to their view "theistic evolution." This is sometimes known as "continuous creationism" or "evolution from the created species." The theory suggests that God creates original species and then allows these to change over time. These evolutionary changes will eventually produce new species similar to the original.
Some creationists believe that God created all living things and the universe in a single event known as the Great Flood. They believe that the first species were created at the same time, and that they grew gradually afterward. They also reject the idea of abiogenesis, and argue that the self-replicating creation of organisms from nonliving matter is unattainable.
In general, creationists oppose the teaching of evolution at schools. Numerous professional associations, like the National Science Teachers Association and the Association for Science Teacher Education endorse this view and so do the American Anthropological Association and the Geological Society of America. Some scientists and educational institutions, however, are more flexible and permit both creationism and evolution to be included in their curricula.
What is Creationism?
When people think of creationism most often, they think of the United States. South Korea also has an anti-evolutionist group. Publishers of high-school textbooks recently announced that they would remove the mention of evolution in their textbooks. A group dubbed the Society for Textbook Revise (STR), an independent body that is an offshoot of the Korea Association for Creation Research and has been the driving force behind the move. STR has achieved its first victory in eliminating instances of the evolution of the horse as well as an avian ancestor, the Archeopteryx, from textbooks. Its next target is to take out portions of Darwin's notorious finch-research and also on human evolution.
STR claims to have the support of 4000 families and individuals. The goal, according to STR is to clear the world of what it calls "atheist materialism" which portrays an unflattering image for students. It also seeks to counter the influence of American Creationists in the United States. A survey of students in biology found that half did not believe in evolution. The root causes are unclear however, they could be related to religious beliefs and the lack of full-time creation scientists in the country.
The KACR accomplished a number of things through its lectures and seminars in the past. It publishes a bimonthly magazine called Creation and a book. One of them is a textbook on the natural sciences that has an orthodox creationist perspective, which has sparked interest among college students. In 1991, a professor together with a minister began teaching Creation Science at one university. It is still taught in the present.
On August 6th and 7th of 1993, KACR hosted a second International Symposium on Creation Research. The event was held in conjunction with the opening of the World Expo in Daejeon. Six lecturers from the world, including ICR's John Morris, Duane Gish, and Steven Austin spoke to audiences of over a thousand. KACR members and KACR have also given talks on creation science in major seminaries. KACR plans to create a Creation Science Education Center in the near future.
